Description

Friends of Christ Church - annual lecture - Holy Rood on the Lawn
Thursday 11th June - 3-4pm
Friends members - FREE, Non Members - £5
Refreshments available.

Holy Rood on the Lawn in Old Town, Swindon, is the remnant of the town’s original 12th-century parish church, located within The Lawns parkland.

Most of the church was demolished in 1852, leaving only the chancel and partial ruins, which are now Grade II listed and maintained for occasional services by the Old Town partnership of churches.

In recent times the gates have been locked and no access is currently given to the grounds directly surrounding the church or the church itself. This is due to structural issues of the building and vandalism.

Come along to Christ Church and listen to Claudia Suckling, director of Wiltshire Historic Buildings trust.

Claudia will share information on the history of the church and talk about plans to restore the church to it's former glory.
